Hygiene

Healthcare ventilation hygiene

Ventilation hygiene is the condition of the ductwork, AHU components, filters and grilles that deliver and remove air. In healthcare it is directly relevant to infection prevention, since contamination in these surfaces is re-entrained into the air supplied to clinical spaces.

01

Standards and expectations

Healthcare ventilation hygiene draws on CIBSE TM44, BESA TR19 (Air) and HTM 03-01 Part B. We assess ductwork internal condition, AHU cleanliness, filter housing integrity and grille and diffuser condition against these expectations.

02

Assessment method

Visual inspection through access panels, deposit measurement where applicable, photographic record of each surveyed section and a written report by AHU and duct run. Where access is limited we recommend access panel installation prior to follow-up survey.

03

From hygiene survey to cleaning programme

Survey findings drive a prioritised cleaning programme — AHU deep clean, selective duct cleaning, filter housing remediation and grille replacement where needed. We sequence works around clinical activity to avoid disruption.
